Paul Spencer, Democratic candidate for Arkansas’s Second Congressional District, released the following statement after Doug Jones defeated Roy Moore to win Alabama’s Special Election for the U.S. Senate.
Candidate Spencer provided the following statement:
I am truly astounded and overwhelmed by the results of tonight’s special election for the U.S. Senate in Alabama. I want to congratulate Doug Jones on his victory and thank him for his lifetime of service to the people of Alabama. I know he will continue to be an excellent public servant in the Senate and will provide a powerful voice for the people. His message of empowering marginalized people, especially those in the African-American community, overpowered the message of hate and bigotry from Mr. Moore.
Despite Roy Moore’s loss tonight, this election still revealed the truly appalling lengths the Republican Party will go to to win an election. Even after numerous credible allegations of sexual assault against Roy Moore, the GOP decided to support him and provide him with fundraising. This despicable commitment to their party’s agenda at the expense of basic decency should disgust every American. And when next year’s midterm elections arrive, every voter should remember the Republican Party’s support for an alleged child molester in Mr. Moore and vote for Senators and Representatives who will fight for working people and uphold decency and respect for every American.
